This year has been an amazing, kinky adventure for Ms.Pomegranate and myself. Looking back over 2015 here are a few special highlights.
1. Dark Odyssey Winter Fire 2015
On a bitterly cold February weekend we traveled to Washington D.C. to attend Winter Fire. If you don’t know, Winter Fire is a multi-hotel takeover sex positive convention weekend produced by Dark Odyssey. The weekend is filled with classes, parties and more chances to practice kink than you can imagine. When Ms.Pomegranate and I weren’t enjoying the kink, we were enjoying outstanding food and a luxury hotel stay. (Yeah, our staycations are better than yours).
There were so many great moments that weekend, that Ms.Pomegranate already wrote about it here. I didn’t write about my favorite memory of Winter Fire, but here it is. Early Sunday morning when it was still dark Ms.Pomegranate and I were walking back to the hotel after a night that culminated in one of Ms.P’s favorite suspensions. As we tried to navigate an icy sidewalk I grabbed her hand and walked with her in the street, since there wasn’t any traffic and the streets were clear. So imagine me, in a kilt walking down a street, with an amazing woman, the shadow of the Capitol building illuminating our path. That moment encapsulated my life, my absurd, comical, blessed, full life. I simply took her hand and laughed as we walked, not being the slightest bit cold or alone.
2.Working with A Touch of Flavor
Online learning has revolutionized education and the kinky world is no different. One of the leaders in adult education is A Touch of Flavor. In April we presented an online class called Impact Basics where we delved into the intricacies of impact play.
Presenting the class was our first time on film and we had fun doing it. It was cool to see the behind the scenes process of filming, also to get an indication of all the time and work that goes into creating education content. Truly, sex education is a labor of love for those who undertake the task. For The Black Pomegranate it was a unique opportunity to share our quirky, informative teaching style with a broad audience. Talking (and streaming) the taboos is what we do.
3. Sex Talk Tuesday
As part of her professional skills Ms.Pomegranate was an early adopter of social media. Today she is a seasoned social media specialist. So over the summer Ms.P introduced me to Twitter chats, specifically Sex Talk Tuesday, a weekly sex positive Twitter chat. Using the hashtag #SexTalkTuesday, participants are able to chime in on sex related questions posed by a moderator. Past moderators have included Nina Hartley, Holly Randall, Lee Harrington and Margaret Cho. Sex Talk Tuesday has become one of our favorite engagements, a chance to partake in a candid weekly conversation on sex.
In September, we had a chance to host SexTalkTuesday, moderating the conversation Talking the Taboos, which was about the importance of communication in kinky relationships. It was a pleasure to facilitate an open, honest chat that helped to demystify some of the perceptions about consensual kink. Whether moderating of simply contributing, look for us every Tuesday at 3PM, contributing to this fantastic sex positive chat.
4. Morpheous Bondage Extravaganza
The theme of this year’s MBE was “Good vs. Evil”, depicted with rope bondage scenes. We performed twice, both scenes based on the capture of Persephone by Hades. In one day, we shared our love of rope and mythology with the world and performed the only dynamic suspension of the night.
A rope scene is like telling a story, with your body and heart. At MBE we used the tools of our bodies and our hearts to tell a story of unrequited love and longing, and completely rocked it.
5. Kinkly’s Sex Blogging Superheros
The day before Halloween brought an early treat as we learned our blog topped the list in Kinkly’s annual Sex Blogging Superheroes for 2015 ranking. We encourage everyone to check out the blogs listed and discover some of the best sex education, sex positivity and erotica content being produced today.
To be acknowledged by our readers and sex blogging peers left us feeling incredibly grateful. Each time we write, we’re sharing a part of ourselves with the reader, be it our knowledge, experiences or emotions. When someone looks at our blog or Twitter feed, they’re also looking at a part of our lives. The knowledge that our content is helping to advance the global dialogue about sex and kink is humbling. We strive to continue sharing, not only ourselves but the best content possible to help people enjoy safer, better sex.
Thank you for the support in 2015 and get ready for an amazing 2016. Happy New Year and keep it kinky.
